40th Annual Na Hoku Hanohano Awards

| September 28, 2017 | Parties

THE PARTY A veritable who’s who in island music descended upon the Hawai‘i Convention Center for the 40th Annual Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards. THE SCENE Outside the main ballroom, nominees and top talents like Raiatea Helm and Jake Shimabukuro mingled before the televised broadcast. THE HIGHLIGHTS Of course, the excitement turned to the award ceremony, featuring over 170 nominees in 34 categories. The night was sweet for Hilo-raised talent Kalani Pe‘a, who, after scoring a Grammy earlier this year, took the Hōkū for Best Contemporary Album. But the showstealer was Keauhou—the trio of Jonah Kahanuola Solatorio, Nicholas Keali‘i Lum and Zachary Alaka‘i Lum—who took home nine awards, including Album of the Year.
