1. Avenue’s Bar + Eatery
In this space once held by food faves Salt, and Hale Ohuna, comes Kevin Hanney’s latest venture. Cocktails are creatively named and infused with equally interesting ingredients. Case in point: Sages + Monks ($10), prepared with sage-infused vodka, yellow Chartreuse and Aperol. 3605 Wai‘alae Ave., Kaimuki, 744.7567
2. Bar Leather Apron
One of the island’s most refined watering holes is actually in the heart of the business district. The man in charge of the exquisite (and alcoholic) creations is none other than critically acclaimed bartender Justin Park. Among the praised offerings are the Yuzu Sour ($15) and Matcha Old Fashioned ($16). Space in here is limited, so be sure to make reservations online in advance. Topa Financial Center, 745 Fort St., Ste. 127A, Downtown Honolulu, 524.0808
3. Hokule’a
With the recent opening of the Four Seasons Resort O‘ahu at Ko Olina, the Westside can now boast of one of the poshest lounges on the island. Order one of the Teatime cocktails, like the Jasmine Mule ($12). Afterward, enjoy one of the nightly island performers like Na Po‘oloa “The Doug Tolentino Trio” band. 92-1001 Olani St., Ko Olina, 679.0079
4. hBar
At Huggo’s recently launched HBar, look for top bartender Billy Gienger, who grows and produces many of the organic ingredients for the bar’s on-point drinks. Notably this includes orgeat for “The Classic” Mai Tai ($12.50), which we consider as the perfect cocktail for a Kona sunset. 75-5828 Kahakai Road, Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i. 329.1493
5. Alaloa Lounge
Frequently lauded as one of the best lobby bar’s on Maui, The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua’s signature bar offers a breathtaking ocean view that must be seen before sunset. (Did we mention whales can be frequently offshore from December to April?) After checking out the sights, settle down with the signature mai tai ($18) made with Appleton VX and Hamilton 151 rums. 1 Ritz-Carlton Drive, Kapalua, Maui. 669.6200
