HEALTH
After living in China for two years, studying traditional Chinese medicine for six years and learning Mandarin for 10 years, Dr. Paige Yang is dedicated to integrating the cultural and traditional practices of using Chinese medicine at her new Paige Yang Acupuncture clinic in Honolulu. “The only thing that is modern in my clinic is the outer frame—the walls, the paint, the doors. Everything else, the core and heart of my practice, is founded on the traditional principles of Chinese medicine,” Yang says. Th e new clinic specializes in body and facial acupuncture, TCM microneedling, LED light therapy, body cupping and herbal consultation. While practicing facial rejuvenation acupuncture, Yang says TCM provides a plethora of health benefits when addressing root problems of stress or anxiety. “I feel really motivated to not only represent Chinese medicine to the best of my ability but also to be a messenger for the people of Hawai‘i to learn about the efficacy of Chinese medicine,” she says. 1150 S. SHADES
From sailing to surfing, this new O‘ahu-based sunglasses company makes protecting your eyes when in the ocean both eco-friendly and stylish. “We looked all over for the best sunglasses to wear while sailing but couldn’t find what we were looking for, so we had to start our own brand,” says Lani Shades Hawai‘i owner Greg Martin. “Lani Shades wood sunglasses are special because our premium UV400 polarized scratch- and seawater-resistant lenses are made with high-quality handmade bamboo, skateboard or kosso wood frames. There are other wood sunglasses brands out there, but Lani Shades are specially designed by our style experts in Hawai‘i, and each design is float tested for life around the water. And if they float away, they are not adding to the problem of plastic pollution in the ocean and beaches that we love in Hawai‘i.” Lightweight with a comfortable fit, there are cool colors and styles—like the favored Eddie style, named in honor of the legendary big wave surfer Eddie Aikau—to choose from for everyone in your family. Plus, each sale plants a tree with One Tree Planted. lanishades.com
