Also known as the Lunar New Year, the Chinese New Year will be celebrated at Ala Moana Center. From Feb. 12-14, Ala Moana Center will usher in the “Year of the Ox” with Chinese calligraphy demonstrations that can be done at home, on-site shopping promotions and a selfie wall waiting for you on Mall Level 2, Center Court (post and share using #AlaMoanaCenter and tagging @AlaMoanaCenter). Make way for good fortune and celebrate the Chinese New Year!
Although the cherished performances and center-wide lion dancing have been canceled due to the ongoing pandemic and gathering restrictions, a highlight reel of past lion dance performances, pole jumping, kung fu and calligraphy demonstrations are available on the Ala Moana Center website and YouTube page to enjoy.
Learn Chinese calligraphy from master calligrapher Ina Chang by clicking on Chinese New Year Celebration on the Ala Moana Center website. Here, you can select from a series of three meaningful characters that represent the Year of the Ox, and create your own piece of calligraphy. Just print and download the free character sheets and follow the instructions provided by Chang.
For three days, customers can receive a limited-edition Chinese Calligraphy Gift Set featuring an original fortune hand painted by Chang, a brush pen, calligraphy paper and a handmade Chinese knot tassel. The gift-with-purchase is redeemable with $100 or more in Ala Moana Center receipts, and must be dated and redeemed between Feb. 12-14.*
Purchases made as part of Ala Moana Center’s Dine and Delight promotion can also be redeemed for the Chinese Calligraphy Gift with Purchase.
