The groovy remodel of the Waikiki classic White Sands Hotel is one of the most anticipated refreshes this year. New owners Springboard Hospitality have partnered with the ubertalented local interior design firm The Vanguard Theory (the award-winning team behind The Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club) to bring you a getaway filled with tropical charm and more than a hint of kitsch. Originally built in 1957, this hidden gem in the heart of Waikiki is a nod to the 1970s, with ruffled sun loungers next to its Instagram-worthy pool and suites decorated tastefully in the colors of the decade. They proudly claim to be a “mishmash of all things Pacific—just like Hawai‘i,” and it is sure to be one of the new hot spots on Kuhio Avenue. Soon to come are a bamboo tiki pool bar with swinging bar chairs and a grotto-style hot tub, complete with the tunes of Don Ho to serenade you from the bubbler.
