When Jennifer Miller, the Kaua‘i-based designer behind Sueno (suenomade.com), was looking for a new creative business, everything fell into place quickly when she started dyeing silk charmeuse. Her line of sexy slip dresses, camis and bedding made out of her favorite fabric are individually hand-dyed in dreamy colors for a marbled, galaxylike effect.
This is no summer camp tie-dye—the utterly deluxe pieces are made with a dyeing process that is labor intensive but creatively fulfilling for Miller. “I’m constantly shifting the look of the dyes because I’m an artistic person and need new inspiration,” she says. “I’m moving more and more to 100% botanical dyes.” The new label has quickly gained a cult following seduced by the feel of silk and its boho-luxe appeal. “I love how the pieces that I’m creating make women light up and feel sexy in them,” she adds. “It’s such a sensual fabric.”
