Asia Major

When major movers and shakers fly into Honolulu for an international conference, a major celebration is in order. And that’s exactly what guests discovered at the U.S.-Japan Council’s Culinary Festival under the stars at Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikīkī. Top Honolulu toques, including Roy Yamaguchi, Alan Wong and Chris Kajioka, were in full force, along with top chefs brought in from Japan. No surprise, then, that dishes paired perfectly with Hibiki whiskey, prized sakes and ITO EN tea. Spotted in the bustling crowd were George Takei, the social media-savvy Star Trek actor; and Candice Kumai, model-turned-foodie extraordinaire. –Photos by Travis Okimoto
