At 20, Ava Jules has already climbed the digital ladder to stardom with millions of followers on TikTok and YouTube thanks to her message of body positivity and girl-next-door demeanor.
“I grew up in Hawai‘i and having ‘aloha’ was a huge part of how I was raised—to be kind and spread love,” says lifestyle and beauty YouTuber Ava Jules. Now, the O‘ahu native dives head first into the world of fashion, launching both a sustainable fashion line and an Earth-inspired jewelry collection with En Route—all while keeping it real and protecting the planet.
How did you get into the social media game? It all started when a girl had a major obsession for Justin Bieber and wanted to show other fans her love for ‘The Biebs.’ At the time, I was 13 and had no intention of social media being anything serious... I love how I got my start on social media. It was purely for fun and happened to become something way bigger.
What do you hope to share with the world? I want everyone to know that they are enough and worthy of good things. Whether that’s helping people gain confidence in their body or inspiring them to pursue their dreams, I hope to spread a positive and uplifting message.
This is our Style Issue and we want to know: What fall fashions are you looking forward to? I love a good trench coat, so I’m excited to travel somewhere a lot cooler (temperaturewise) in the fall.
What does style mean to you? Style to me means expressing myself and my current mood through what I wear. I see it like this: My body is an avatar that I get to dress up every day. My personal aesthetic varies, but usually it’s pretty casual with pops of color and lots of accessories.
You’ve recently launched a sustainable fashion line. What was the inspiration? I’ve wanted to make merch for years, and it took a long time to perfectly create my vision. … There’s the Aloha Collection and Inspire Collection, both aiming to help people feel their best and inspire self-love, happiness and positivity.
You’ve also released a jewelry line. Give us all the details! Creating my jewelry line with En Route has been the most exciting thing to happen this year. … My grandma has always loved jewelry and has been passing down the coolest vintage pieces since I was a little girl. I took loads of inspiration from the jewelry she gave me and did some digging on Pinterest to create jewelry that’s unique and beautiful.
Beyond fashion, beauty and social media, you’re passionate about protecting the Earth. Are you involved in any current initiatives? I do a lot of volunteer work with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii, a nonprofit local organization that aims to clean up the coastlines of Hawai‘i and educate people on the ocean pollution crisis. The ocean is so important to me, and growing up in Hawai‘i I was always taught to respect it and care for it. It’s been a blessing to use my platform to spread awareness on something so important.
What’s next? Is it bad to say I don’t know? … Life has a way of working out and throwing some curveballs along the way, so I’m trying to ride the wave of life and take opportunities as they come.
