BEST UKULELE ARTIST
O`ahu-native Taimane is a musical sensation whose finesse for fingerpicking is reserved for the best ukulele players in the world (like her teacher, virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro). At just 29, Taimane has opened for Chris Isaak, performed with Jack Johnson, and played for the Dalai Lama and George Clooney. Her latest triumph is Elemental, a new album of original tunes fusing her passion for nature and penchant for mysticism. Channeling musical influences from classic rock to Beethoven and Bach, she is a gifted entertainer—all energy and expression. “There are other ukulele players who play minor keys and darker songs, but they don’t dance,” the artist says, laughing. “I can’t stand. I need to move with the music.”
