Born and raised in Honolulu, Carissa Moore (@rissmoore10) started surfing when she was 5 years old and has since become one of the most successful and recognized female surfers in the world. “I was around 11 years old when I really fell in love with surfing and the idea of pursuing it as a career,” says the first-ever winner of the Olympic gold medal in women’s surfing (in 2020), five-time world champion and three-time Triple Crown of Surfing champion. “Getting outside, moving and feeling the sunshine is something I incorporate into my everyday routine because it brings me so much joy. Having an abundance of joy is the key to living a healthy, happy life.”

For Moore, one of the biggest wellness takeaways from surfing has been a healthy mindset. “The idea of surrendering to the ocean and being open and adaptable to whatever comes my way has translated to my outlook on life,” she says. “It has helped me to lean into my intuition, practice my faith, stress less and have more fun.”
An ideal day for the world’s currently No. 1-ranked female surfer is inspirational. It starts by waking up early and getting physical. “Getting a sweat in helps to ground me and keep me present and motivated for the rest of the day. It’s usually a morning surf or, if the waves aren’t good, an F45 workout, Pilates O Kalā (pilatesokala.com) session, Yoga Room Hawaii (yogaroomhawaii.com) sculpt class or a training session with my trainer and good friend, Erin.”

Then Moore heads home to work on something near and dear to her heart, the Moore Aloha Charitable Foundation (moorealoha.com). Its mission is to encourage young females through the sport of surfing to be strong, confident and compassionate individuals. “We have received countless messages sharing personal experiences of how Moore Aloha has empowered or inspired someone in some way. That’s the most rewarding achievement so far.” Moore has made it easy to support her foundation by purchasing from her new Hurley x Carissa Moore Collection (hurley.com), which features prints by Aloha De Mele.
Recharging after a motivating morning is key for Moore. “Getting quality sleep and making time to slow down and recharge is so essential to our overall well-being. After I take a nap, if the waves are good, it’s back to the beach or wait for a sunset walk with my hubby and the pups.”
This year, she is looking forward to traveling and competing on the WSL Championship Tour, but when asked what her goal is for the year, the remarkable role model says, “Share Moore Aloha, live simply, be present and have as much fun as possible.”
