The Royal Hawaiian Center invites guests to celebrate the approaching Lunar New Year and ring in the year of the pig with events kicking off Friday, Jan. 25 and running through Feb. 11. While this New Year celebration is more often associated with the Chinese culture, Marleen Akau, Royal Hawaiian Center vice president and general manager, says the tradition is rooted and celebrated throughout Asia. “Today, Lunar New Year is an annual occasion for the people of HawaiĘ»i to gather together and enjoy delicious food, fantastic festivals, good luck charms and more.” The two-week long event includes live entertainment, cultural activities and other promotional gifts. The highlight day takes place Feb. 5—Chinese New Year Day—with a special lion dance performance by the Lung Kong Physical Culture Club. The highly anticipated festivities will leave you feeling full of luck for the upcoming Lunar Year.
