THE PARTY With a theme like Midnight in Paris, American Cancer Society Hawai‘i Pacific needed a dreamy venue for the first edition of its Hope Gala Honolulu. With its charming early 20th century architecture, Hawai‘i State Art Museum turned out to be the perfect spot for the Saturday soiree as hundreds of guests—many dressed up in vintage attire—took a step back in time to the Roaring ’20s. THE PLAYERS Event Chair Michael Morales; co-emcees Liz Chun, director of philanthropy at Pali Momi Medical Center, and Steve Uyehara, anchor on Hawaii News Now; Dr. William and Sheree Loui; Michael and Bina Chun THE HIGHLIGHTS To set the mood, a host of talented performers took the stage. Singer and cancer survivor Rebecca Robbins impressed the crowd, as did songstress Starr Kalahiki and the virtuosic dancers of Samadhi Hawaii. (Who wouldn’t be dazzled by their airborne show?) The menu was equally impressive with dishes by Cafe Julia, The Grove, 12th Ave Grill, Michel’s and JJ’s Bistro & French Pastry. Photography by Travis Okimoto
