Uncover The Potential of Alternative Medicine According To An O'ahu Healer

By Ela Sathern By Ela Sathern | June 7, 2022 | People Lifestyle

“All methods of medicine need to be considered when we’re talking about the healing of people,” says Dr. Elizabeth Maximin of Listening Medicine (listeningmedicine.com) in O‘ahu. “Additional approaches to medicine are growing because they look to get to the root of the problem.”

Maximin began studying philosophies inherent in East Asian medicine and found a passion to serve her community with acupuncture. “The benefits of acupuncture are numerous for the potential impact on physical and mental health,” she says. Now with a doctorate in acupuncture and Oriental medicine, and a feng shui consultant, Maximin helps ease stress, insomnia, fatigue, depression, anxiety, headaches, allergies, nausea, muscular pain, women’s health issues and more. Her focus when helping a patient is really listening to their goals and meeting them where they are in their healing journey.

“Acupuncture and herbal medicine deliver a method of cleansing, strengthening and balancing systems of the body, in order to feel better physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually,” she notes. “Feng shui can include having an enhanced relationship with yourself, with others and with your environment. It’s through this enhancement that one can see positive changes in different areas of their life.”

With a goal to enlighten people to different ways of thinking that may broaden their own perspectives on wellness, Maximin gives health workshops across O‘ahu, most recently at Halekulani in Waikiki.
