“There is a duality to my mind and abilities: artist and scientist,” says Dr. Macrene Alexiades, founder and director of Dermatology and Laser Surgery Center of New York. Alexiades—who began working in the lab at the mere age of 12 and entered her freshman year at Harvard at 16—launched her own skincare brand, Dr. Macrene 37 Actives, in 2009. The line debuted with a waiting list of hundreds—all coveting the hero cream, which originally contained only 37 actives, but now has over 50. “My main objective,” she says, “is to use my expertise, knowledge and extensive work in lasers and injectables in dermatology to make procedures obsolete by transferring these effects into the skin via active ingredients, and I believe I have achieved this goal.” Here, the top doc shares some of her beauty bests.

For example, if I get a joint pain, I will take my turmeric and drink a nettle tea; if I am traveling by air, I take a glutathione to combat the increased radiation; if I feel a cold coming on, I dose 2 grams of vitamin C with bioflavonoids.”
