All art forms, from photography to architecture and fashion, are strongly interconnected and provide endless inspiration for interior design,” says Ginger Lunt- Founder and Principal Interior Designer of Tantalus Studio. Growing up on Oahu, with a musician/realtor father and photographer mother, nurtured her creativity and love for Hawai`i’s natural landscape, architectural history and blend of cultures.
The studio, which sits within the forest reserve atop Honolulu that gives it its name, serves as constant inspiration for Ginger’s work where she excels in creating spaces inspired and in tune with their natural surroundings. “It’s so important to take cues from the natural and cultural environment of the project’s location. At the same time I’m always inspired by global design– both what history can tell us, as well as new innovations and perspectives. Looking forward, and back, always," she says.
Tantalus Studio was founded on the premise that the quality of the environment people spend time in is essential to their physical and mental well-being. This is more apparent than ever in the current pandemic environment in which people are spending more time in their homes and utilizing them in different ways than they had before. “Having your home enhance your everyday experience, whether that be as a place of rest and relaxation, or a place to connect and enjoy time with family, is at the heart of what interior design is about,” says Ginger.
The majority of Tantalus Studio’s projects are throughout the Hawaiian Islands, but she is now branching out to other areas, such as California. “I’m inspired by a variety of design styles, so having the opportunity to work on projects in different locations is always really exciting," says Ginger. The joy, passion, and energy she feels for interior design is evident through her projects, and she strives to foster this atmosphere with her clients.
While Tantalus Studio has become successful by creating thoughtful and artful spaces, another reason for its success can be attributed to the focus on customer satisfaction, streamlined process, and effective communication.
“One of my goals as an interior designer is to make the process understandable, inspiring and as seamless and stress-free as possible for my clients.”
