One of Tahiti’s hottest boutiques, Eimeo (eimeoclothing.com), has landed on O‘ahu’s shores. Its grand opening brought out the island’s most fashionable set for a night of Polynesian food, dance and music. Hawai‘i has long been one of the brand’s largest online communities, so opening a brick-and-mortar in the iconic shopping destination of Waikīkī was an obvious choice to bring the French Polynesian slowfashion and lifestyle brand to a more diverse and cosmopolitan audience. Moehau Walker-Levy started Eimeo to celebrate Polynesian art and culture, blending her childhood memories of Mo‘orea and the nostalgia of Tahiti matamua (the lost golden age) with modern tropical living. The result is a line of printed dresses, tunics, and pareos light-weight enough for humid weather but with a feminine, retro silhouette reminiscent of a bygone era. Men’s and children’s aloha shirts and home décor with a tropical flair can also be found at the chic boutique on Lewers Street.
