Hawaii Food & Wine Festival: From Mauka to Makai: Hawaii’s Sustainable Future THE PARTY The last day of the much-anticipated Food & Wine fest was held at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. The resort’s Great Lawn was bursting at the seams with some of the nation’s most esteemed chefs; the islands’ top culinary and agriculture players; and an impressive crowd of foodies, influencers and media members. THE PLAYERS John Besh, Michael Cimarusti, Celestino Drago, Dean Fearing, Michael Ginor, Ed Kenney, Chef Mavro, Peter Merriman, Rick Moonen, Michel Nischan, Philippe Padovani, Jeffrey Vigilla, Marcel Vigneron, Alan Wong, Roy Yamaguchi THE HIGHLIGHTS Food and wine stalls lined the Great Lawn from end to end, and more than 1,000 attendees casually made their way to each one—dabbling in delish dishes from Alan Wong’s Molokai shrimp to Chef Mavro’s hebi poisson cru to Peter Merriman’s fork-tender beef cheeks. With five-star sustainable offerings at every turn, a slow and steady tasting strategy was the way to go. Photos by Mark Ramelb
