One of the island’s best makeup artists, Risa Hoshino, has teamed up with two of her friends, Lindsey Dalrymple Carroll and Melissa Lee, to start Future of Cool (futureofcool.co), a new line of menthol wipes.

The trio grew up in Hawai‘i and understands the challenge of battling Hawai‘i’s heat and humidity, especially on long days on set for Hoshino. In Japan, where Hoshino spent part of her youth, it is customary to use mentholated products to cool down. “I wanted to bring that concept to the West and make it better, using eco-conscious materials like biodegradable plant fibers and natural scents using essential oils,” she explains. Carroll used her plant expertise to help formulate the product. It was also important to the founders that the brand be marketed to all genders. “In Japan, mentholated products are many times aimed at male consumers, and it’s shameful to be sweaty as a female. I don’t believe that at all! We all sweat, and we are here to help,” she says. Future of Cool wipes are made from methol derived from botanical mint oils and have raised dots to best exfoliate and absorb the formula. The buzzy brand aims to expand its product line soon and host more fun pop-up events.
