Not only is Halekulani one of Honolulu’s poshest and most celebrated properties, it is undeniably a major part of the city’s arts and culture scene. As part of its 30th anniversary celebrations, the grand hotel fittingly sponsored the gorgeous exhibition Light From Shadow: Gold in Japanese Art at Honolulu Museum of Art. At the VIP-only opening party, Halekulani’s COO Peter Shaindlin and museum chair Violet Loo welcomed the international crowd while a koto musician played in the background. Of course, the real star of the evening was the thoughtfully curated ensemble of rare pieces, capturing more than 1,000 years of stunning work in the precious metal. –Photos by Tracy Chan
