Head of the Class

The Party
Honolulu’s creme de la creme turned out in force at Waikīkī’s legendary Pink Palace for one of the city’s top social occasions of the season. Though gray skies and showers loomed above, a massive attendance of more than 500 guests proved that inclement weather is no match for a great cause.

The People
Even after the most cursory glance, it was easy to see that the glamorous assortment of movers and shakers lived up to the grandeur of the famous hotel. Former KHON presenter Olena Heu and former KITV presenter Mahealani Richardson made a splash in vivid dresses, while island style-maker Valerie Joseph sparkled next to hubby Joe Ho. Arguably, the real stunner of the night was the beautiful Miss Hawaii USA Moani Hara.

The Highlights
A fete of this size required a feast, and this year’s roundup of toques certainly did not disappoint with their creative preparations. The Royal Hawaiian’s very own chef Shaymus Alwin of Azure Restaurant delighted palates with Kaua‘i prawns with furikake quinoa and corn espuma. Chef Lance Kosaka, who recently became executive chef at the Top of Waikiki, also impressed with his pork loin on kabocha and marscapone puree. –Photos by Tracy Chan
