We spoke to Candes Meijide Gentry—athlete, philanthropist, recording artist, co-author of Eat Pono and former Miss Hawai‘i (1999)—to get her answers to our Healthy Holiday Hacks rapid-fire questions. See it below!
Before a party I always… like to take a shower. I love to turn on a little bit of cold water just to feel refreshed.
The holidays are not the time to… throw your routines out the window. Rather a time to solidify them and make sure you stay healthy and hydrated, always working out and being mindful about time and how you spend it.
Some easy food swaps I like are… Chee Hoo Bars. New (frozen) bars from Banan that are made with frozen bananas instead of ice cream and no refined sugars.
The healthy dish I bring to a party is… I love to bring our Eat Pono Tart Berry Bars. I can make a seasonal jam with any fruits and berries that are in season and it’s always really fun to share
My go-to healthy cocktail is… actually a mocktail. I love to mix apple cider with sparkling water.
To remedy when I overindulge… Papaya and banana in the morning. I love papaya for the digestive enzymes and the banana for all the electrolytes.
When I have just 20 minutes to work out, I prioritize… I love to do something that is core related or plyometrics and still get my heart rate up but also focus on strengthening my muscles.
During a hectic season, I make sure to… definitely find time to slow down and rest and spend quality time with my family and friends. After all, that’s really what the holidays are all about.
