A poignant moment in the gallery
THE PARTY Veterans old and young joined museum patrons for the Honolulu Museum of Art’s invitation-only reception for its showcase of photographs from five internationally acclaimed artists. Their subject: the courageous stories of those who have served their nation in recent years. THE PLAYERS Adm. Cecil D. Haney, commander of U.S. Pacific Fleet; the Hawaii Army Museum Society’s retired General David A. Bramlett; Museum Director Stephan Jost; curator Jay Jensen; Museum Chairman Lynne Johnson; museum trustees Indru Watumull, Vi Loo and Helen Gary THE HIGHLIGHTS Sipping on cool cocktails, invitees slipped into the warm evening in the museum’s spacious courtyard. Later, in the exhibition, they met with stunning portraits of brave servicemen and women. And while some pieces dealt with more poignant themes, guests always felt a strong sense of pride and reverence. Photography by Jonas Maon
