This year, Hawai‘i will be blessed with two visits from Outstanding in the Field (outstandinginthefield.com), a touring pop-up dining event known for pairing standout chefs with Instagram-worthy outdoor locations to create an unforgettable and unique experience. Founded in 1999 in California by land artist Jim Denevan, Outstanding in the Field aims to bring the restaurant to the source, setting up a long, communal table for one day only in the place where the food is sourced—from coastlines to mountains, city streets to vineyards. Hawai‘i’s stop on the 2023 tour was held at the stunning Kualoa Ranch, where the table was set with views of the 4,000-acre property’s mountains, valley and beaches. This year, the property’s traditional Hawaiian fishpond will be the site of a Mediterranean-inspired dinner by Istanbul Hawai‘i’s mother-and-daughter duo, chef Ahu Hettema and chef Nili Yildirim. The second dinner will take place on the beach at Kona Salt Farm on Hawai‘i Island, where guests will learn about the salt harvesting process from Salt Master Melanie Kelekolio.
