“There is a truth and authenticity to Hawai‘i that constantly inspires and cultivates my creativity,” says artist Kristie Kosmides (kfk. art). The wild, ever-changing landscape of Hawai‘i Island, from the rainforests to the reefs, has inspired the professional painter since her youth growing up in Hilo. Her large-scale pieces depict soft, hazy, abstract interpretations of seascapes, figures, flora and fauna. “I paint from memory and nostalgic personal experiences and connections,” she says. “I find inspiration in the ephemeral moments in life, nature and especially the ocean. I love expressing an energy and feeling with a ‘movement’ and ‘mix’ of both abstract and representational styles.” Kosmides is currently working on Abstract Collab (abstractcollab.com), an immersive creative experience for participants to create art to live music.
