Leave it to Kahilu Theatre, Hawai‘i Island’s premier performing arts center, to turn fantasy into reality for its second annual Masquerade Ball—the social event of the season. While masks were obviously de rigueur, several guests got creative and turned up in full costume. As the evening’s theme was A Hot Night of Gypsy Jazz, there was much to explore in the Hilton Waikoloa Village’s grand ballroom, which was transformed into a glittering bohemian oasis enchanted by belly dancers, tarot-card readers and a silent auction. But the real wonder of the evening was Hot Club of Hulaville, which turned out sultry tunes thanks to vocalist Willow Chang. –Photos by Kirk Lee Aeder
