Artist Carla Gangini (cganginiart.com) moved to Maui 30 years ago from Santa Cruz, California, and has been inspired by the island ever since. Originally an event and graphic designer, she took up oil painting 12 years ago and uses the medium to capture the essence of the Valley Isle. Her landscapes, seascapes, and portraits of fruits, flowers and livestock are painted on-location around the island or from her studio in Wailuku. Gangini’s world is filled with bouquets of protea, bunches of bananas, surfer girls and the undulating landscape of upcountry Maui, all colored in her signature palette of muted blues, greens and pinks. Her beautiful paintings are at Hui’s gift shop, Monarch Collective in Makawao, Wings in Pa‘ia town and the Lauren Roth Art Boutique in Kailua, O‘ahu.
