What started as a school project at the University of Hawai’i Manoa to create a brand and sell products has turned into a beloved local boutique where women can find an outfit for any occasion, hand-picked by owner and stylist Dara Fujio. At Mikinola, named after her past dogs Miki and Nola, shoppers can expect a shopping experience like no other. “It’s a very intimate environment, so they’re not just customers to us they become our friends that we truly care for,” says Fujio. “Our new 1,700-square-foot space has ocean views, and our refreshment corner will make you want to relax and shop.” With over 200 brands from designers around the world, customers are quick to grab the latest from the Pistola denim line; comfy basics from Perfect White Tee, Monrow, Splendid, Stillwater and Rails; and dresses from Australian brands like Significant Other, Bec & Bridge and Rumer. “The Aussie lines are great for special events because they match our Hawai‘i lifestyle, and it’s highly unlikely you’ll be showing up to the same event wearing the same outfit,” she says. “What I love most about having a shop in Hawai‘i are the people. Our wonderful customers have become lifelong friends, and it’s so much fun to see their families grow after being in business for over 13 years.” 6700 Kalanianaʻole Highway, Honolulu, shopmikinola.com
