“We know that people don’t just want to look better, they want to feel their best too. In order to do that, we provide coaching that will inspire and guide you through workouts that will challenge and change you,” says Joy Bitonio, an official Lagree Fitness master trainer and NASM-certified personal trainer who opened KOMO Studio in 2020. “We also understand how it feels to struggle to stay motivated, which is why we take the guesswork out of reaching your goals with workouts led by talented instructors who will reignite your fire, test your limits and inspire results that will spill over into all other areas of your life.”

As the first studio in O‘ahu that specializes in the Lagree method, performed completely on a Megaformer, this workout effectively balances high-intensity, low-impact movements that focus on core, muscular strength and muscular endurance. The Megaformer transforms each exercise into effective compound, full-body movements. “This means that your arms and core are working even when you’re focused on leg exercises,” explains Bitonio. “The Lagree method at KOMO isn’t about counting reps or lifting more weight. Instead, we combine compound, full-body movements with time under tension. Each exercise is performed with the goal of enduring the movement while maintaining proper form to effectively stimulate multiple muscle groups all at once.”

No workout is ever the same. There are countless sequences, variations and ways to keep clients engaged and challenged. “With each class, your confidence will grow right along with your strength,” she says. “There are several class formats that welcome all levels, from beginners to regulars, thanks to the expert guidance of our instructors who provide modifications and progressions that meet each client where they are at.” The beginner format, KOMO Foundations, focuses on improving body awareness, practicing proper form and getting familiar with the Megaformer. Loyal form-follower favorites are its signature total body workout PIHA Total Body and MĀ.KIA Endurance that emphasizes longer set durations, limited transition times and cardio bursts.
“What I do for a living is more than just giving people a great workout. It’s connection, community,” says Bitonio. “Nothing is more rewarding than witnessing clients climb over the walls they’ve built around themselves. We only have one life to live, and I feel that my calling is to inspire, lead and empower others to live their best and highest potential, one sweaty KOMO client at a time.” 111 Hekili St., #109, Kailua, komohawaii.com
