Honolulu’s culturati converged in Iwilei to fete the inaugural exhibition of Gallery HNL, the latest arrival in the islands’ intimate contemporary art scene. The space is a unique collaboration between noted collectors and philanthropists Mark and Carolyn Blackburn and the University of Hawai‘i at Mà„noa’s Department of Art & Art History, in cooperation with design guru Sanford Hasegawa. Among the attendees were Hawaii International Film Festival Director Emeritus Chuck Boller, Halekulani Chief Operating Officer Peter Shaindlin and socialite couple Kristen and Michael Chan. And the topic of the evening? The smartly curated ensemble of pieces by Theresa Heinrich, Jonathan Swanz, Tom Walker and Mary Babcock, of course. -Photos by Tracy Chan
