“Outdoor showers are one of my favorite sensory elements of a Hawai‘i home, and our clients always love to integrate them where we can,” says Tantalus Studio (tantalusstudio.com) founder Ginger Lunt, IIDA, ASID. The home was remodeled to add contemporary touches to traditional craftsman-style architecture, with the exterior landscape architecture fully overhauled with new ipe and basalt paving and decking. For this his and hers outdoor shower off of the primary bathroom, the client wanted a vibrant green ceramic tile to add some color and play off of the landscaping, mixed with the basalt already present elsewhere in the landscaping. Lunt chose a handcrafted Heath Ceramics (heathceramics.com) tile with a spectrum of greens paired with minimalist shower elements. “The contemporary shower fixtures add a nice sculptural statement in front of the tile,” notes the Honolulu designer, and we agree inside and out.
