OUTRIGGER Hospitality Group can’t be stopped. The Hawai’i-born beach resort company was founded 75 years ago and has since amassed 26 resorts, hotels and vacation condos throughout the island chain and beyond—Kā‘anapali Beach Hotel on Maui is next. The deal is expected to close this summer on July 26 at an undisclosed purchase price, at which point travelers can begin their summer stays.
“From Maui to Maldives, OUTRIGGER is bullish about our mission to be The Premier Beach Resort Company in the World, simultaneously elevating our current assets and strategically adding complementary resort products to our global portfolio,” says president and CEO of OUTRIGGER Hospitality Group Jeff Wagoner. “OUTRIGGER’s investment in a full-service Maui resort underscores our confidence in this iconic destination and our commitment to its community.”
The award-winning Kā‘anapali Beach Hotel, recognized as “Hawai’i’s Most Hawaiian Hotel,” just came off a $75 million property-wide renovation that includes the revamping of two guest wings and the employment of several high-impact sustainability initiatives, such as the addition of solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations and water refill stations. A new beachfront restaurant has also been welcomed to the property, serving a combo of traditional and contemporary Hawaiian cuisine.
The property sprawls across 11 acres with 432 rooms, situated on a three-mile stretch of pristine sand that is lauded for being the “No. 1 Beach in the U.S.” and “No. 10 Beach in the World” by TripAdvisor. Uniquely positioned as embracing and preserving Hawaiian hospitality and culture, the resort offers a dozen cultural classes for guests and a roster of ocean activities such as canoe paddling and snorkeling.
Since the 1980s, General Manager Mike White has paved the way for modeling a sustainable approach to the Hawai’i tourism industry at large, exemplified by the Kā‘anapali Beach Hotel’s dedicated focus on community service and cultural connection.
Once officially acquired, the newly-branded OUTRIGGER Kā‘anapali Beach Resort will be further enhanced under OUTRIGGER’s leadership while still maintaining its signature traits that have garnered so much praise.
In fact, White created the state’s first Hawaiian cultural training course for hotel employees 30 years ago, which OUTRIGGER adopted and tailored to their needs. Now, the management styles are becoming one.
OUTRIGGER will also add The Plantation Inn, a charming bed-and-breakfast, to its portfolio in the same transaction. The Lahaina Town, adults-only property is slated to remain as is.
