THE COUPLE In Leavenworth, Wash., a la a Hallmark Christmas Special, Scott surprised Lectie and asked her to be his wife. This unstoppable couple met at BOCA Hawaii, a triathlon shop on O‘ahu, which says it all as they planned their athletic-sheek wedding. With a celebration years in the making among family and friends, they wanted a party to celebrate their love, but much less formal and more of a thank you to all the special people in their lives.
THE DETAILS Scott, a Honolulu firefighter, loves the color Hot Pink. “To stay away from the high school prom of it all, we went for a subtle gray with pops of pink, down to my shoes and the groom and groomsmen’s shoelaces,” says Lectie, a realtor associate at Berkshire Hathaway Homeservices, Hawai‘i Realty. “We did do the traditional wedding cake because I love cake, but Scott really wanted doughnuts, so we decided to serve doughnuts to the guests.” Purve favorites, the Sanchez and Sunburnt Haole donuts were served, along with a custom doughnut created by Scott with haupia, mac nut and Bavarian cream.
THE PARTY Keeping things comfortable and casual, wedding planner Karis Lehua and Cafe Julia provided everything the couple could imagine. “We wanted to enjoy the day and wanted our guests to have a good time,” says Scott. “We let the day take its course and had faith in the people that planned it.” After their fun celebration, the newlyweds jetted to New Zealand for an adventurous honeymoon. —Ela Sathern

THE COUPLE Taiwan-born Amanda Chi and San Diegan Michael Chu met at work in Los Angeles. These busy physicians quickly realized they wanted to see more of each other, so they move in together. On one memorable day at the beach, Michael surprised Amanda by asking her if she wanted to be his forever roommate.
THE DETAILS For their November wedding, the couple and their attendees traveled to Maui to bask in the island’s natural beauty. Aiming for a simple and elevated wedding day, they entrusted wedding planner Angelica Montania. “Whatever Angelica suggested, we went with, and it went perfectly,” says the bride. The color scheme included muted blush, sage, light orange and greenery, with centerpieces including a mix of spray roses, garden roses and ranunculus.
THE PARTY Amanda notes her favorite part of the reception was “dancing like no one is watching and knowing that everyone is dancing with you.” After enjoying a Pacific Asian fusion meal, topped off with a raspberry with white chocolate frosting cake, that’s precisely what the couple did throughout the night. “It was such a carefree day for us to spend time with our loved ones,” she says. “We wouldn’t change a thing!” —Ela Sathern

THE COUPLE Both born and raised in Honolulu, Marissa and Bobby officially met through a dating app, although their paths had crossed twice before at work events. Sparks flew on their first date at Via Gelato and three years later, he surprised Marissa with a ring in front of their Christmas tree. “Throughout our time together, we found a shared sense of humor, appreciation for travel and food, and an affinity for animals,” Bobby says.
THE DETAILS 53 By The Sea was chosen with a sentimental tie. “My late grandfather sketched Diamond Head, so seeing the picturesque view from the chapel during our ceremony made me feel like he was a part of our day,” says Marissa. The couple included the importance of family in their ceremony with elegance and intimacy. Flowers from the pew and altar were arranged as mini bouquets so the couple could gift them to the women in their immediate family.
THE PARTY The father-daughter dance was one of the highlights of the reception. “I’m glad it was a tradition I decided to keep,” says the bride. The couple also implemented a local Japanese tradition of banzai toasts: one from the guests to the couple and then a second toast from the family guests, for thousands of years of life and happiness. Then the newlyweds jetted off on their honeymoon, beginning in France and ending in Italy, with a stop in New York City before heading back home in O‘ahu. —Michaela Wilson

THE COUPLE What can only be attributed to fate, Lauren and Rob’s journey started when they were paired in a group at the University of San Diego. Less than 10 years later on New Year’s Day, Rob took Lauren to a special San Diego beach and asked her to be his wife.
THE DETAILS The privacy and ocean view of the Olowalu Plantation House made for a perfect place to say “I do” and brought a sense of home to Rob, who was born and raised in Maui. “My vision for our wedding was something that would be timeless, classic, and chic yet modern, warm and inviting,” says the bride. “We wanted to honor the location and ensure the day had a sense of place.” Served at the reception was a custom menu created by the Corporate Chef Scott McGill of T S Restaurants—Rob’s family-owned restaurants— featuring a modern spin on Hawaiian regional cuisine and Kimo’s famous Original Hula Pie as the cake.
THE PARTY“We surprised our guests with a choreographed first dance to Of Monsters and Men’s “King and Lionheart,” Rob described. If that wasn’t enough to entertain guests, Grammy-nominated and 20-time Na Hoku Hanohano award winner Henry Kapono played at sunset. “It was a true gift for him to play and surprised our guests beyond belief,” Lauren says. “We wanted our wedding to be guest-focused with little touches here and there that made each person in attendance feel special.” —Jack Tucker
