THE PARTY Brian Etheredge, executive chef and owner of Capische, regaled celebrities and festivalgoers with sumptuous small dishes and free-flowing cocktails. THE PLAYERS Maui Film Festival founder/director Barry Rivers, Analeine Cal y Mayor, Hawaii Five-‌0 cast and crew, master Hawaiian chanter Pulama Collier, chef Chris Kulis THE HIGHLIGHTS Maui photographer Randy Jay Braun went high-tech, as his photo drone zipped overhead and guests meandered through the garden, discussing screenplays and snacking on gourmet loco mocos. Sam George, director of Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau, confessed to having “weather anxiety,” though the climate couldn’t have been more perfect for the debut of his documentary, a touching tribute to the legendary surfer, whose family signed autographs for guests. Later, at the outdoor screening, Aikau’s brothers and Hōkūle‘a crewmate Nainoa Thompson drew tears from the audience as they accepted awards in connection with the film. Photography by Jason Moore
