Formerly called Manta & Pavilion Wine Bar, Manta has been renamed and reimagined. The postcard worthy views of Kauna‘oa Bay and the sunset are even better, as the lounge is now open to the outside. Once seated, sample from the special bar menu, offering pūpū and handcrafted cocktails, or, take advantage of the option to select from Manta’s recently revamped full dinner menu. According to Mauna Kea Beach Hotel sous chef Rio Miceli, the menu has a new emphasis on blending traditional and contemporary flavors with Pacific Rim favorites. Such dishes do not “require many ingredients, provided they are of supreme quality, harmonize well and are prepared with consummate skill,” Miceli says. What hasn’t changed: The restaurant and bar’s reputation for a stellar wine program, with a wine list that should satisfy even the most discriminating oenophile. Insider’s tip: Each Wednesday, the already romantic ambiance is further elevated by a jazz duo who perform from 5:30 to 7:30pm. 62-100 Mauna Kea Beach Drive, Kohala Coast, Hawai‘i Island, 882.5810
