With a stunning new property in Bermuda, iconic hospitality brand St. Regis redefines luxury on this North Atlantic island.
A look at the property, which is inspired by traditional Bermudian cottages
Bermuda is renowned for its pink sand beaches, glistening sapphire blue waters and colorful marine life—but when planning to jet off to the British territory, it’s not which adventure to book that comes to mind, but where to stay. The small island is home to a handful of hotels, but few can compare to the recently opened The St. Regis Bermuda Resort.
Experience Champagne sabering every evening at the terrace of the great hall at 6.
Pulling up to the property, which is located in the St. George’s area of the island, you are immediately awestruck by the chic white building (mimicking the classic white cottage style of the island) juxtaposed with turquoise waters. The lush resort lies directly on St. Catherine’s Beach, where Sir George Somers and his men came ashore after a shipwreck in 1609.
Take a dip in one of the two pools, both of which overlook the sapphire blue waters.
“Located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of St. George’s, the property is surrounded by history,” says general manager Leslie Prea. “With five relic forts that make up the area, including Fort St. Catherine adjacent to the resort, guests are fully immersed in Bermudian heritage upon arrival at the property.”
The great hall features floor-to-ceiling windows that drench the space in sunlight.
Driving onto the grounds, views of Five Forts Golf Club beckon you to practice your swing—but it’s through the front doors and into the resort that you finally melt into bliss. “The hotel’s design reflects Bermuda’s unique architectural style while adding contemporary elements that further deepen the luxury experience,” Prea explains, noting its stunning saturated colors and geometry combined with the signature elevated design of the St. Regis brand. “The ease of what can appear to be formal takes a casual elegance against the backdrop environment, creating powerful visual impressions within this juxtaposition.”
The pool and ocean beckon the most blissful relaxation.
This begins inside, where floor-to-ceiling windows welcome guests with pristine views of the beach and tranquil waters—a true tropical paradise. Look up to see an abundance of light fixtures that nod to the nautical location, like one in the lobby that dangles with pieces of chiming sea glass. This grand room is also host to the hotel’s popular afternoon tea, where both children and adults indulge in handmade sweets and finger sandwiches.
A bar inside the hotel serves up plenty of vacation cocktails, like the rum swizzle.
After checking in with the concierge, a butler will show you up to your room, where you’ll be greeted with either ocean, garden or fort views. Each one comes with its own amazements, from ocean views to breathtaking sunsets. Other in-room features include a balcony, a spacious bathroom, a stand-alone soaking tub and an overall soothing aesthetic to melt stresses away. In the suites, a living area provides ample space for family nights or feasting on in-room dining. It is here that you learn more about the services provided, which truly make you feel like royalty—one hardly has to lift a finger at The St. Regis (think laundry, butlered coffee and ironing services). Depending on when you check in, there’s an abundance of activities to enjoy. If there’s still a lot of sunlight left in the day, head to one of the beach chairs (or a reserved cabana) for a much-needed decompress.
Inside, plenty of seating calls for a good read.
There, quench your thirst with the island’s traditional rum swizzle, made with rum, falernum, orange and pineapple juice, and a dash of angostura bitters. For a quick snack, the calamari is considered to be some of the best on the island. And if you’re looking to start your vacation in style, head to the spa. Here, a robust menu of services (hot stone massages and custom facials abound) complements a tranquil outdoor garden canopy, as well as steam rooms and saunas. In the early evening, attend the Champagne sabering—a beloved ritual at every St. Regis property—before heading to dinner at BLT Steak NY. Your best bet? Sit outside for even more serene views and order the selection of East Coast oysters, burrata and 28-day dry-aged Kansas City bone-in strip. For off -property adventures, take a Twizy (the island’s mini electric cars operated via phone app) anywhere on the island—jet ski tours to the Bermuda Triangle, a day on Horseshoe Bay Beach and the Crystal and Fantasy Caves are nonnegotiables. But no matter your itinerary, be sure to cap it off with a swim in one of the two pools back on the property before steaming away in the hot tub. Prea concludes, “The resort is an embodiment of a playful, spirited Bermuda—an island that doesn’t take itself too seriously and prevails to be unabashedly bold.”
Plush bedrooms feature simple yet sophisticated design, meant to complement the stunning views from the balcony.
