When Jenna Wonser began to handembroider, her first piece was a vintage pullover she had from the 1980s that she stitched with leftover thread from an old craft box. Thanks to her Instagram posts, Vintage For Peoples (@vintageforpeoples) was recently formed in O‘ahu and she now carries curated, handstitched vintage pullovers that date back to the ’60s and ’70s, plus a growing collection of Levi’s with handstitching on its back pockets—“Howzit” being its No. 1 seller. “I’m really proud to say that every piece I’ve created has been from vintage and upcycled materials, even down to thread and packaging,” she says. “Every piece from VFP is one of one. There’s many details that are thoughtfully executed. From curating the garments and thread colors, sealing the stitching that’s done by hand, finding the right fit for each client and stamping our 100% recycled packaging material—so much love goes into every single piece!” This fun vintage clothing is unique with inspiration brought by Wonser’s daughter and women in her community in O‘ahu. “What I love most about creating these pieces in Hawai‘i is the support from the women in my community, especially other hardworking mothers,” she says. “I started VFP purely from a place of sustainable creativity. They’re a huge reason I have believed in myself and this business. There’s so much love here.”
