THE PARTY Despite unexpected showers, the who’s who of the Valley Isle still managed to fete Maui’s cultural hub with panache. With the epicurean delights and fine wines served, it’s no surprise that this year’s sold-out edition—in support of the MACC’s educational programs—turned out to be the most successful one yet. THE PLAYERS Surfer David Kalama and Shana Kalama, Dorothy “Honey Bun” Haynes, chef Alan Wong, surfer Pete Cabrinha and designer Lisa Letarte Cabrinha of Letarte Swimwear THE HIGHLIGHTS With the culinary powerhouses that chef Eric Faivre of the Grand Wailea gathered for the event—think chefs from Capische, Kō and Spago—the cuisine was outstanding. At the auction preview, artist Kim McDonald’s totem-inspired surfboard and new accessories line, Kaikimba, were hot commodities. Ahumanu serenaded the chic crowd, but when Jimmy Mac and the Kool Kats dove into Chaka Khan territory (cue “I’m Every Woman”), even wallflower beach babes raced under the luminous pavilion to groove.
