Windward Oahu’s newest cocktail and pupu bar, The Boardroom, is quickly becoming a Kailua favorite. The elevated yet beachy eatery is designed to showcase the best of Hawai‘i’s locally grown produce and meat—from Molokai bone marrow to Kahumanu Farm beet carpaccio—with an eclectic and expansive menu that changes quarterly with the seasons. The real star of the show are the cocktails, though, like The Beatnik, made with Old Pali whiskey (from Kailua-based Ko‘olau Distillery), Cynar and fresh beet juice; or ‘Ōhia Revival, where Manoa ‘Ōhia Lehua honey and local lilikoi are mixed with Redemption rye and Campari—a drink meant to bring awareness to Rapid ‘Ōhia Death, one of the most important environmental issues the state faces. Founders Keno and Dawn Knieriem opened The Boardroom in January 2022, its latest business venture after opening Treehouse, a chain of successful coworking spaces, that shares the ideology of being a force for good values and environmental awareness. “We are attempting to make sourcing local and caring about local environmental issues sexy through our craft cocktails and food and the design of the space,” says Knieriem. “Our vision is to create an analog experience where people can connect with who they are dining with, the food and the space.” theboardroomkailua.com
