The Main Event

THE PARTY Always one of the most attended fetes of the season, this year’s 17th Annual MDA Spring Soirée was no exception. Honolulu’s movers and shakers attended en masse–and for good reason. Not only did they get to support the fight against muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases, but feast and drink at one of Waikīkī’s most gorgeous spots, The Royal Hawaiian. THE GUESTS Given the evening’s theme of old Hawai‘i, some guests turned out in aloha attire, while others opted for dressier looks. Spotted that night were MDA Hawaii’s Frances Wong, Valerie and Joseph Miao, and a bevy of beauty queens. Glenn Tamura and Tamura Enterprises Inc. were fittingly honored as Community Partner of the Year. THE HIGHLIGHTS Gastronomic wow was a big draw, thanks to hot spots like Azure, BLT Steak and Búho Cocina y Cantina. But that was not the only reason for the excitement, as a live auction brought a friendly competitive spirit. And, of course, let’s not forget the dance party that came afterward! –Photos by Travis Okimoto
