Toast to TLC

| September 11, 2012 | Parties

THE PARTY After having helped some 16,000 children with serious illnesses and their families for 30 years, HUGS brought together its friends and supporters for a fun-filled anniversary celebration at The Kahala Hotel and Resort. THE HIGHLIGHTS Over sparkling cocktails, local personalities, top doctors and community supporters mixed and mingled before heading to their tables. With television presenter Dan Cooke as emcee, the gala was a heartwarming affair, including a crowd-pleasing performance by ‘ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro. (Fans in the audience couldn’t help but capture the moment on their iPhones.) But some attendees were even more excited by the prospect of what was to come during the coveted live auction. The evening’s spectacular items included a jaunt to Lāna‘i for friends on a private jet, a six-day getaway to Lake Tahoe, and a private luncheon for a winner and 39 friends on a secret island. THE PLAYERS HUGS CEO Robin Johnson; musician Shimabukuro; Hawaii News Now’s Dan Cooke and Steve Uyehara; Darrell and Cathy Lee; Wenli Lin; Chason Ishii and leading island doctors, including Dr. Elizabeth Ignacio, Dr. Lauren Dawson and Dr. Jeffrey Yeoh.
